Arvind David

Arvind Ethan David is a producer and writer of film, television, comics and theatre, who also serves as Executive Director of Ideate Media, a Los Angeles-based production and financing company.
David currently serves as an Executive Producer of the acclaimed BBC America / Netflix series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, created by Max Landis and starring Elijah Wood. The show, currently in production on its second season, has quickly become a cult favorite, described as “gorgeous, ambitious, pre-meditated chaos" (New York Observer) and “Sherlock for the stoner generation" (The Guardian).
The Dirk Gently series grew out of David's longtime association with Douglas Adams, the late creator of both Dirk Gently and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy; David's friendship with the science fiction author began when he was a student, adapting Dirk Gently for the Oxford stage. Twenty years later, David is delighted to be introducing the world's weirdest detective to new audiences, and is working with the Douglas Adams Estate on a number of other projects from the Adams' catalogue.
In the comic book world, David is currently writing two monthly series for IDW Publishing, including Darkness Visible, a title he co-created with acclaimed novelist Mike Carey (Lucifer, Girl with All the Gifts). The other, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, has been praised by reviewers, including Comics Bulletin: “it keeps the brand burning… poised to reward the reader with further riches."
In theatre, David is producing the Jagged Little Pill musical, based on the legendary album by Alanis Morissette. The show, with a book by Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno) is being directed by Tony Award-winning Diane Paulus, and will open in Spring 2018 at the American Repertory Theatre. Additionally, David produced and co-wrote book and lyrics for The Infidel – Musical with legendary British comedian David Baddiel. The Infidel based on their hit film of the same name, and with music by Erran Baron Cohen had its initial run at The Theatre Royal Stratford East in London, and is currently prepping for a National UK tour. David's stage adaptation of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is published by Samuel French, has been translated into multiple languages, and is performed regularly around the world.
David has produced six feature films, including the original hit comedy The Infidel. Current films in development include Lionsgate's If I Were You, to be directed by Dan Mazer (Bridget Jones' Baby, Dirty Grandpa), BBC Films' The Ghost Map, based on the Steven Berlin Johnson bestseller,and The Knights of the Borrowed Dark, based on Dave Rudden's acclaimed YA trilogy.
David is a principal of Ideate Media, which operates out of offices in both Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; in addition to Dirk Gently, other productions include Sydney Sailboat (NBC-Sprout/Australian Broadcasting Corporation), and the forthcoming Asian action feature, Tombiruo.
