Senior Director of Production & Development

Jon Bardin serves as Senior Director of Development and Production, Documentaries and Specials for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Science Channel, and Velocity. In this role, Bardin is responsible for bringing new documentaries and specials to Discovery while helping manage the development and production of concepts to green light, in addition to maintaining the quality of documentaries and specials through production and delivery. Recent projects include the 2017 Sundance Film Festival premiere Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman; Emmy®-nominated Racing Extinction; Killing The Colorado; and Sonic Sea. Bardin is based in New York and reports to John Hoffman, Executive Vice President of Documentaries and Specials.

Prior to joining Discovery, Bardin co-founded The Public Good Projects, a non-profit production company that provides innovative media that makes complex problems easier to understand so people can take better care of themselves and their families. While there, he served as producer on Sleepless in America, a co-production with the National Institutes of Health that explored the crucial need for sleep and the shocking life-threatening consequences of its absence which premiered on National Geographic Channel in 2014. 

Bardin earned his PhD in neuroscience from Weill Cornell Medical College, where he studied recovery from severe brain injury and disorders of consciousness. He is the recipient of a research fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, and has published papers in several scientific journals, including Brain and Archives of Neurology.

Bardin earned his A.B. from Harvard College with a concentration in Visual and Environmental Studies.
